To have a lifetime friend is rare these day and any one who has such a friend is fortunate indeed. I don't know where we would be without those friends.

This sounds like an autobiographical piece. The first stanza sets the scene. There are so many perils lying in wait for the growing boy. It really is surprising more don't fall one way or another. When I was young the drugs thing was not an issue and somehow I learnt to control the booze demon. I was destined to fall on the female hook. Poor stupid fish that I was.
whatever the trap a friend in need is definitely what is required at at a time like this. The poem makes your point well.

You want much more than that.
I'm sorry, but in my book, if she is already involved and in love with someone else, the best thing you can do for her as well as yourself is to keep your distance and walk the other way...fast!
You want her to be happy, don't you?
You wouldn't want to do anything to cause her pain, right?

Hello Dean, whatever you do, please do not be sorry to me, however in this case you are a little off track ( though clever) my friend is a she, she is the mother of my two God children and was and always will be my friend ONLY, I probably did cause her some grief but never pain, only respect and love for the person that she is Cheers my Freind ****kahpot
