Much treasured is your gift, but so is mine;
a privilege to read poems you scribe.
So few are verses found so very fine!
An education shared with all your tribe. :))

Your words, my friend, are truly sweet and kind,
I had to answer you without delay.
Within this site, much better fare you'll find-
I'm just a tired old hack with lots to say!
Thanks for the lovely and entertaining response. I'm very grateful.

Ah, no, while there are many talents here,
some lack your skill; refinement must be sought.
See, reading works like yours I do hold dear,
for lessons thus are free, and I've been taught. :))

Hi, Craig;
Thank you for sharing this lovely sonnet about the misinformation we are given every day. I think the artwork you chose and the language all go well together. Great word - grif.

A perfectly composed sonnet, Craig. I even like the artwork of the old dudes in their funny clothes. Are those togas?
You asked a good question and gave no answer, which is the way it is. Maybe there isn't one single reason why we're here and pondering about it is just a bad case of mystic fibrosis and the fact is we are here on account of because. Works for me.
Great job and best wishes to you in the contest.

Well, the old dudes are Greeks, so my guess is himations??? Although one dude is wearing his backwards. My vote is that there is no why. Maybe not all that satisfying, but better than the idea we're here to be puppets or playthings. Cheers for the kind words, Craig

A very well done sonnet and one that says the truth, the more we think we know the more we don't. Love the simplicity of this and yet so deep

The scientist can answer "how", not "why";
That's the truth, sadly. The biggest question of all time for all people: Why are we here? Otherwise stated: What's the meaning of life?
Answer: Because we are.
The more we learn about the universe and the human animal, the more new questions arise. When those too are answered, then we ask and answer more. So, maybe one day we'll get closer to answering the big question.
Then again, maybe not, since no number of HOWs can explain one WHY.

For me, the most logical answer is there is no why, but who knows? Thanks for reviewing.

A very well-written Sonnet about the biggest puzzle in our lives is life itself. How did it all start, the Bible tells us most of it, but it is still a grif for now. We only see in the mirror but someday we will see through the mirror.

Craig, This is a very well written poem you have penned. You used very good wording and great imagery. I do not believe as the monks do. I truly believe in the one true Living God! No man or thing can change that for me! Great job my friend! Blessings, Teri

At first I thought that was a typo. I immediately envisioned Whitney Houston singing, "The greatest grif of all, is easy to achieve...". I love that picture and wonder why that guy in the front is covering his eyes like he's wiping away tears. I see a few others appear to be crying as well. Look at the calf muscles on the guy up front. These guys must work out at the gym. So great word, grif. Best wishes in the sonnet contest. You have all the sonnet elements in place.

Hi Joy, the main character in the painting is the philosopher Socrates, and the painting is called "The Death of Socrates", which is what it's about. I guess that's why people in the picture are crying. It's actually a true story - he was forced to drink poison because he was convicted of "blasphemy". Whitney's song went through my head, too. Cheers, Craig
