Asmatographer -What a very strange word for a writer of songs and it certainly applies to Carole King. Well penned poem by you Craig,

Thanks very much, Valda. Yes, it sounds a bit like somebody who makes documentary movies about fortune telling to me. Cheers, Craig

Hooray for my daily vocabulary expansion thanks to you.
I also really admire Carole King. (Though my very favorite songwriter, Rick Springfield, is originally from your country, and I average seeing him at least once a year. )
I saw a great play here last year called Beautiful. It was a musical biography of Carole King and was wonderful. Everyone left the theater with all of this great songs stuck in their heads.

I saw that show here, Linda. It was quite delightful. I don't know more than a couple of Rick's songs - "Believe in Me", from way back in the early 70's, I think, - I really like that one, and "Jesse's Girl", which doesn't do a lot for me, but I don't find it hard to take lol
Thanks for the lovely review,
Craig

Much to my husband's dismay, I know all the Rick songs right up to the album that came out last month. I went on a cruise where he reunited Zoot about 5 years ago. Two or the guys still lived in Australia and they all had a blast playing together. ( more than you needed to hear, but I might be a little obsessed:)

LOL - I've noticed his fans tend to be!

Hi Craig. I do like this so much. I recognized the names of her songs within your poem. My husband and I DID see Carole King a few times at college performances when we lived in New York. Nicely composed and, yes, she is a talented "asmatographer." Marilyn

To say I'm envious would be an understatement, Marilyn Thanks for the kind words, Craig
Comment from Gloria ....
What a beautiful picture of Carole. She sure did write and perform some fantastic tunes back in the day. And she and James Taylor had real chemistry. You sure don't see that much anymore, even though there is something of resurgence of folk musicians. Being that you are the son of Keith Moon I'm surprised you didn't run into each other already.
Par excellence with a new woid, and your secret's safe with me. :)

I scratched my head and tried to come up with what I said about that, Gloria. I need to write my lies down somewhere, so I can remember them ;-) I remember saying something about his daughter being a lunette, and that's all I've got lol

Ha, no worries I forgot to add the wink. It was a bad joke from your post about The Who and going deaf. Sorry. You're no liar so I guess you don't have anything to write down after all. ;-)

A very well-written poem about Carole King and the beautiful songs she wrote. It is easy to have a crush on a popular celebrity when they do the things we love the way we like iy .

Hey, Craig,
I read through this poem, too... I'm not familiar with Carole King, (likely because my music diet is arguably not very good, in truth) So I was glad for the head's up on how you utilized titles in your stanza's, not because I thought them standing out, but because I wouldn't have even guessed with the way they were naturally blended in.
The first stanza sets up the second nicely, giving a whimsical sort of humor to the idea of announcing a not so secret, secret crush.

You might know one or two of her songs without recognizing them as hers - like On the Roof, Pleasant Valley Sunday, or You've Got a Friend. Or maybe not, not everyone is as old as dirt ;-)
Thanks for the lovely review, Craig

I like her music too, but I don't have a crush on her. So now your secret is out. I guess it all depends on how your wife receives the news of your crush.
- "(It) hard, because she lives so far away," - it's
Nice to see a picture of Carole King. I'm not up on all her songs so I didn't catch on to them in every second line. Sorry. Maybe I'll google her and listen to some this week when I use the exercise bike.
That's quite a word, but one that sounds usable.

Oh, the wife knows lol
Thanks for the great catch. It's not a huge poem, and I read it several times, so I don't know how that slipped through. Something about seeing what I want to be there, rather than what is, I suspect.
Most grateful :)

I saw her in concert years ago and the experience has never left me and I've seen a few concerts including the Beatles, The Supremes, Ella Fitzgerald, but Carole King has stuck with me. Maybe it was her rendition of SMACKWATER JACK.

Well, to say I'm envious would be an understatement! I'm so glad you mentioned that song, because the words just came back to me, and I thought "how appropriate" (a little ongoing discussion I'm involved in , to do with a certain topic). Great song, too.

Craig, This is a fine poem you have penned about Carole King and her ability to sing and write songs. I used to enjoy listening to her also. You used very good descriptive words and very good imagery with the picture. Blessings, Teri

Thanks very much, Teri. It's a shame if you don't get to listen to her now, good music doesn't age, in my opinion. I appreciate the lovely comments. Craig

Is that Carol King in the photo? She looks fantastic and I love her hair. I found this to be an educational poem as I've never heard of asmatographer. The word could have been about being asthmatic so I learned something today - thanks.
Just a slight edit (as shown in brackets) on start of first line, second verse -
"It('s) hard.....".
Thanks for the share and a walk back in time with this talented musician. ~DD

Yes, that's Carole. She looks a bit different to the picture on the cover of Tapestry (taken in 1971), but is still just as beautiful, I think. Thanks for picking up on the typo, as well :) Cheers, Craig
