The pun at the end made me laugh out loud after the serious, intellectual tone up until that point. You poured a lot of knowledge, vocabulary and history into a rhyming poem, which takes talent. Now, I am learning much more than one new word from your poems (and author's note.) Looks like it took tons of research, or maybe you are just that well-versed and educated:) Good luck in the contest, it is a very good entry.

It is hard to respond to this super cool poem. It has neat word captures, like vinipote and Bacchant, that blend with the addition of Descartes to get us to the fabulous final phrase that brings the house down. Fun stuff.

What a wonderful play on words, and thank you for the history lesson on this great man. I may find out more about Omar Khayyam. I hardly have his genius but I do appreciate his philosophy on life. This is a great poem!

Then again, maybe I wouldn't be, if my mother hadn't had a copy of his Rubaiyat when I was a kid.
