Craig, This is a very cute and well written limerick you have penned. You used very cute words and I like the art work you chose to go with your words. I enjoyed reading and reviewing it. I saw no spag or errors! Blessings! Happy Easter to you tomorrow! Teri

Perfect photo to accompany your, "A modest limerick." So true, sometimes it's hard to be humble when you have the greatest show on earth! :) I enjoyed the irony and humor.

Hey, Craig,
Fun Limerick, ... strong, easy to follow limerick beat and rhyming scheme while incorporating the word of the day.
This one reminds me of the Lord, it's hard to be humble song. In that song, the singer is speaking of himself, and declaring he's doing the best he can... to be humble, while being perfect in every way.
There's a bit of amusement when, in the same breath, there is a claim of being above criticism and without compare, and yet not bragging.

Well, thank you for taking the time to check out more :) One problem, I've found, with setting myself the task of writing a poem a day, come what may (oh, I rhymed lol), especially when having to use specific, and rather strange, words is that it's difficult to make all the pieces of similar quality. There are definitely better ones I've posted recently than this one. Regardless, thanks for the lovely comments. Craig

you're welcome. will look for your others.

Barnum is wearing lipstick! Did you notice?
Fantastic, erm ... no wait, a modest Limerick here, Craig. Barnumism seems to be in vogue these days, yes?
Most modestly enjoyable. :)

Thank you for your very modest comments, Gloria - I'm most modestly grateful :)
Come to mention it... there is something notably "aunt-ish" about those eyes and that face. Do you think???..... OMG!!!

Hello Craig,
I can't imagine anyone on Fanstory claiming their verse is above criticism. Come to think of it there were a few recently that told me where to go and what I could do with my suggestions when I get there. Ya, let's not go there. I'm a bad girl...
Good word of the day. We used to privately joke at certain parades about the clowns entering the parade square to the music, "do do doodle oodle do do doodle..."

Say it isn't so. Someone told you to go play in the traffic, Joy? I can't ever imagine that happening. And not one, but a few? I must have you all wrong. Here I thought you were a "wouldn't harm a fly" type, and in reality, you terrorise half of Fanstory with your vicious, horrible reviews! LOL
Now I have to go back and reread what you said, to find the biting sarcasm and hidden put-downs :)
Many thanks, as always.

Oh, I read an article sometime last year (or was it the year before...hmm..LOL) on Barnum and Bailey - I mention it only because your limerick reminded me of some of the things the writer claimed were true of the characters. It was actually very thorough and interesting. (www.Internet - LOL)
Well done (show-off).

It's always good to be a little humble, but if ya gots to toot your own horn to make a living (especially if you're a circus leader), then maybe a measure of "crass Barnumism" can't be helped. :)
This is a fun limerick, Craig, and "Barnumism" is a word I'll remember. Whether or not I ever have occasion to use it is another matter; still, I always enjoy learning these new words from you. Such a great idea to post a poem each day for these 'linguistic curiosities". Well done, Craig! ~~ Connie

I'm not sure it's such a great idea, Connie. Sometimes I look at the word and go "bleh" - lol
Barnumism was ok, though. Many thanks for the great review - Craig
Comment from Debbie Pope
I think that Barnumism is a word worthy of a limerick. It is such an appropriate word that it deserves revival. I say revival because my computer says there is no such word. Enjoyed your post as usual. Keep em coming.

Not sure how that happened, Debbie - I think your computer is fibbing. I got 8,800 hits in Google for it. This is the first:

Thanks very much for the kind assessment :)

Good limerick, Craig. "Barnumism" is a nice touch.
But, according to that definition, the Chisholm poet actually was a practitioner of Barnumism. I suggest amending line five to reflect that, perhaps something like, "and guilty of overt Barnumism!"
Have a happy easter.

Hi Don, Thanks very much for the kind review. My intention was that it was Chisholm who was making the claim about Barnumism (along with all the other boastful claims). So it's really a case of irony - his actions contradicting his words. I guess that didn't come across clearly. Have a great Easter yourself! Cheers, Craig
-
Yes, I assumed it was Chisholm. I'm trying to help, Craig. My point is anyone who is that blatantly boastful is guilty, not devoid, of Barnumism.
(Have a terrific Easter, anyhow!)
