Hi, Craig,
I'm drawing a lot of blank for useful thought, but I read through this poem and enjoyed exploring the irony of something coveted for its beauty, in relation to the word of the day meaning an eyesore. Earth blight for people bling--imagined the land saying, no amount of people bling can ease the ugly of mass destruction for the sake of glitter.
one sad life so dull and crappy?
(Another odd tidbit that rattles in my head about the yellow trinkets; since my younger days, I've had a preconceived notion that gold is depressing. It probably isn't true in the sense that wearing gold causes some sort of reaction in skin that brings depression, but it's something I tend to associate with it.)
turn it round* and get a grip.
(I noticed this round, and thought a mini echo with the above round, ground... then this round.)

Thanks for the thoughtful review, Turtle. Maybe it's the thought of what else could be done with the money that bling cost that causes the depression? Like, "Oh, I could have have had a family holiday in [name your favourite exotic location], but instead I've got this cute little toe ring". Many thanks, Craig

I always learn so much from reading your work, Craig. Did not know that gold mining was a resource in Australia. I definitely agree that the landscapes of our world are far more important and irreplaceable that what we are doing to them.
Happy Easter!

Comment from Gloria ....
Those CATS are just enormous now. Great invention, but not always put to great work. I've heard gold mining and recycling of gold is one of the most polluting activities of man going on. I was surprised to learn that on the fly and shall have to research some more. None of that jewellery stuff interests me much and I really don't appreciate its purpose other than trinkets for the ultra wealthy.
Excellent social commentary, Craig.

Hi Gloria,
Gold, coal, gas-- take your pick. All as unnecessary as each other in this day and age; but yes, gold seems the most absurd. Many thanks, Gloria - Craig

I am with you all the way with this, Craig. An excellent commentary. Another horrific one is diamond/gem mining. Well written throughout with great rhyming and on an important topic. Marilyn

Yes, Marilyn - and we might as well add in coal and gas mining, since there are far better alternatives available now. Many thanks, Craig.

The problem, I suppose, is that it takes enormous time, cost and planning to make the transition from one form of energy to another but we have to start somewhere. To get all countries on board with changing anything is tough.

Craig, This is a very interesting and well written poem about this sadness that goes on in our world today. Man always seems to take away the good in the earth that is already here. You used very good wording and very good imagery with the words and art work! Blessings and Happy Easter! Teri

A very well-written poem. In our quest to make a living for ourselves we often destroy the beauty of nature to make space where we like to live and never think twice of what we did.

Thanks very much, Sandra. We do so much to destroy the Earth with no thought of the consequences, and usually for very little benefit. Much appreciated - Craig

What a truly ugly word dssight is! Not half as ugly as the scarred earth you describe though. I doubt that there are many who really appreciate the enormity of these mines. In the context of jewellry, your feminine endings gave me cause for a wry smile.

Your response made me wonder what percentage of people might favour abandoning of say, coal mining, but draw the line at gold. Thanks, Tony.

This is an eye opener of a Tetrameter poem. The poem highlights the cruel and neglectful way Mother Earth is raped of all her riches. The picture chosen to illustrate the severity is one that makes most humans guilty of coveting the jewels of the land. A very reflective and conversational piece. ~DD

Mining just like cutting down trees burning them up and building things kind of in that same mode but when we observe these eye sores, we want to do something about it because as We Know the Earth to be today the more we do to it the less attractive is going to be and our existence on the Earth is going to be miserable if we don't stop some of our ways

Thanks for the thoughtful review, Mary. Forestry is one thing - with proper management, trees can regrow (although it rarely is properly managed). Much appreciated - Craig

How could you see in my mirror in order to know that I am a missight. I thought I was only an eyesore. Nice t know that I am more than an eyesore. Your poem was pretty good too. Take care, Craig

Haha Pam. I don't know how to respond to that. I'm pretty sure whatever I said, I couldn't win. My other half plays that trick on me all the time :) Thanks for the fun review - Craig
