It's a terrible thing that we are going through and it makes no sense that the "second amendment" is defended when a bunch of innocent children are killed. Good irony with the happy meter and the sinister message.

Thanks very much, Helen. I think it is unfathomable to most of us who have not grown up in that culture that the right to own weapons outweighs the right of people to be safe. It's mind boggling, but one thing I'm heartened by is the number of people who are now realising it isn't worth it, and there are times long held "rights" or values need to change.

I suppose there must be a few gun-totin' poets in our midst, Craig. I know how to shoot myself, being from Montana and all. But this business of protecting the right to own assault rifles, no background check or waiting period needed. Really???!!!!
I was about to say it's crazy, but remembered that it all boils down to money. Just gotta keep them gun sales goin, right? I must check your ratings to see if you get any hateful notes. If you do, I hope you just laugh and move on.

So far, so good, Carol. I think most of those who would be inclined to let loose a tirade already have me on block lol
Many thanks :)

Comment from Gloria ....
Terrific satire song, Craig. I can see this going over well in folk circuit. And wherever did you find the dummy that looks remarkably like LaPierre. It's really unfortunate these people have to lie to get people to buy their lines.
That said, I'm pretty sure I've understood the melody on your song too. Space under my hat is a great line, and Wayne-O is always a handy refrain.
I'm looking forward to the Richard's trio YouTube performance.
Excellent social commentary.

Thanks, Gloria. You really thought the scarecrow was a good match? I was concerned it might have a bit too much personality. Many thanks, Craig

I for one loved it, you are making a point and taking a stand, is as artists and poets use what we have which is our voice and words, never be afraid to offend because in today's day and age it's impossible not to

That's very true, Phillip. It is pretty much impossible to say anything worthwhile without someone getting cheesed off. Most grateful, Craig

I'm not offended. It's a crying shame to lose our children. It's worse that it is in such a violent way. The Devil is at work and he is having a party, that's for sure. God, Please help us resolve this horrible problem so our children will be safe. Well done Craig. Nancy

Thanks very much, Nancy. Every time, the question is asked, "How many more?" Will it ever be answered? Most grateful, Craig

Hi, Craig;
Isn't it awful that we need to put disclaimers on works that talk of stopping the ongoing violence and shootings in our schools? What has the world come to when no one wants to take assault rifles out of the hands of killers?
Thank you for sharing this poem. I, too, am offended by all of these shootings. And, I'm offended by those who continue to say it is a 'right' to own guns capable of taking out a room full of people within seconds. NO ONE needs a gun able to do that!
(Sorry, I got on a bit of a tear here,)

Thanks very much, Patty. Apparently it's a thing that we can only express views so long as everyone agrees with them. Unfortunately, I'm not good at following rules. Most grateful for the kind review, Craig

A very well-written poem about the unnecessary slaughter of our young children on the school banks. We all have a responsibility to know what state our children's mind is, that is where charity begins when we know our children are mentally healthy there will be less horrible shootings.

I really enjoyed your poem it was so well rhymed. it makes a good little ditty. I disagree with every syllable in it but that doesn't get in the way of a good read..
