Hi Craig, I think as a woman, I can totally identify with your great poem. Yes, we peak and then our beauty starts to fade. I still like to think that an older body and face can hold an inner beauty of a life lived and what once was. Another great word. All the best. Ulla:))

I've always found the picture brilliant as she moves back and forth between a young woman and old woman.

I agree beauty is in the eye of the beholder and also the eye of how society judges beauty at any given time in history.

A fine poem in great metre with a strong message of heart.

Enjoyed my friend.

Ah, a very good poem indeed with a change of heart in the protagonist! I find the word, "beautyhood" somewhat cumbersome but might be handy if we needed three syllables.

Yes, it's not the most splendiferous of words, is it? Many thanks, Helen.

A very well-written poem about beautyhood that comes and passes very quickly. The outer beauty fade and gets old but the inner beauty never goes away, it is always part of who we are.

beautyhood is in the eye of the beholder...

As highlighted with the particular choice of picture to visually present the word of the day.

I enjoyed this poem, a nice break from a whole lot of ugly going on in the world, and a solid representation of the struggle of understanding what it means to experience beauty ... visually, socially, and I want to say spiritually, but I think I mean holistically. Beyond arbitrary aesthetics.

Some food for thought in watching the presented character in this poem transcend from a point in her life where she was atop of beautyhood (or was she) to a point in her life where she might not be considered at beautyhood, but ... it depends on how you look at the picture.

Nice rhymes, and the turns of phrases in the poem stayed consistent, giving a tone for contemplation... (I could hear this type of phrasing spoken by someone at a mountain top, kind of zen-like, in a way that fit the theme and deeper moral floating in the telling.

"Spiritually" works for me. I don't think the born-again crowd have a monopoly on the use of the word.

Your comments have convinced me - I've missed my true calling - should have been a guru ;-)

Many thanks for the thoughtful review, Turtle. I'm always grateful for the time you take to understand each piece.

    Cheers,

Nicely used word of the day and believe it or not, I have used a couple that I have read you introduced to my life. Nicely done in rhyme and flow, beauty is the heart

I'm glad you've found some useful words in amongst all the totally weird ones, Barb (there certainly are plenty of those). Most grateful, Craig.

Good Job C.D. The image is a good one for the poem. You tell the story about beautyhood well. I seems the object of beauty in the poem lost her wealth but not the beauty. Beauty is as beauty does and Mama always told me it is only skin deep. It's what come from within that is the measure of true beauty. Well done. :) Nancy

Yes, Nancy. The idea was, when she thought she'd lost her beauty, she'd actually found it. Many thanks for a great review. Craig

Craig, This is a very well written poem that can be true. It makes me think of me when I was a lot younger and worked and could afford what ever I wanted. Now I am older and pretty happy with just what I need these days. It feels a lot better to me. Great words and very nice imagery from the art work. Blessings, Teri

Yes, when we are young, it's about accumulating "stuff", sometimes, I guess with good reason. But it's nicer when we're past that stage. Many thanks for the lovely review, Teri.

Hi, Craig,

Thank you for sharing another new word - though this one is a word I've seen used in books that were written in the forties and fifties. It is so true that there are times in life when someone is the most beautiful - though I find that in the case of my daughter, it seems to continually change. I find myself thinking that she just gets more and more beautiful.

Thanks for reviewing, Patty. Beauty can be measured in a number of ways, but I think it's a good thing you feel that way about your daughter :) Cheers, Craig

Hi Craig. A very nicely composed poem including the word, "beautyhood," especially this stanza:
"In solitude, she learned of things
of more import than beautyhood;
for sometimes isolation brings
a self that's better understood."

Solitude leads to reflection and is an excellent teacher. It helps us focus on what's important. That's why gurus go to mountain tops. Marilyn
