Like me, you must have gotten the contest bug. I've not entered this one yet. Interesting idea and compelling artwork. Reminds me of what Charlton Heston said.

Which gun was called "the gun that won the west"? Supposedly, we now live in civilized times, and shouldn't have need for guns. Good advice to be careful about where it's aimed. Syllable count is right on the money, and you added a plus with some rhyme. Best of luck in the contest. judi

Nope, gotta say Bill if it wasn't for the artwork I wouldn't have understood this twenty syllable poem at all.

That said a fine job and best of luck to you in the contest.

Wow! A lot in those 20 syllables! :) You may have my weapon when I'm dead....because this weapon helped tame the savage wilderness this country once was as well as tamed those savage enough to stand against it....but be sure you use it in defense of this country and not to destroy yourselves from within....

Dunno. That's just the blonde's take...sorry if I missed the mark. :) ;)

In my opinion, it's a great write (even if my interpretation is wrong) and good luck in the contest! :) Yvette

This reminds me of a cross between 1984 and Quiz Show. Not sure how those two stories popped in my head, but there you go. Darn fine innovation and risk on this one. Wish I had a six left!

I like these thought-provoking poems. I am guessing you are writing about our love of technology and the dumbing down of society because of the over-use of it? "Talking heads?" I like the 20 syllables and I am still going to ponder. Please send updates to share if I am accurate. Well done!

Is the television the weapon? It calmed a savage land by bringing everyone inside to watch violence instead of committing it. Careful where it's aimed....people who glean all they know about from America get a very skewed warped picture
God bless

I'm not quite sure what the poem means but I'm taking it as an anti-gun message because when rifles "calmed a savage land," we didn't have automatics that killed unarmed children. The picture, I'm not quite sure how to interpret.

I get that there are people in the world who believe that having a gun is necessary for their survival. I doubt very seriously that most of these people have never had to kill someone. I don't mean kill someone on a battle filed where it is kill or be killed. What about killing someone who does not even pose a threat to you. It does not surprise me that most mass shooters wind up killing themselves. They probably realize the enormity of what they have done and cannot handle it so they take the easy way out by killing themselves.

I was hinting more to violence on television.

I get that, but some talking heads relate most of the gun violence to influences fed by TV. Doesn't really matter, once you pull the trigger, you are basically screwed.

Hi Bill, No I don't think I did. All I can come up with is your pen will be writing the truth of what is happening and that will not be well received. The best I can do. All the best. Ulla:)))
