This is marvellous, Craig. I've never seen the aurora either, but the excitement and beauty of the aurora of your imagination must be fairly close to the real thing, I reckon.

Great use of metre and rhyme and wonderful imagery.

Thanks for the stellar rating and the lovely comments, Robbie. I believe that the view from Tassie can be pretty awesome. I've been there a couple of times, but not seen the aurora. Perhaps it was the wrong time of year, or I was too close to the bright lights (or maybe I just didn't think to look!) Either way, that's probably a more viable option for me than somewhere near the Arctic circle, but one can dream!

I'm lucky enough to have a volume of Robert Service's poems, which was sent to me by a friend in Alaska; but I have barely glanced at it (an oversight I must correct).
