Hi Craig. Your post features your word "after-roll." So it seems like all countries, Australia isn't perfect either. From what I've read, your country does have strict immigration rules, which all countries must have. Once people are "vetted" then entry, if safety can be assured, is allowed. Here, we are sadly lacking in vetting. Marilyn

The rules are strict, except when a holder of public office has the opportunity to do some mates a favour, Marilyn. Or when the beneficiaries of breaching the law are white, well off and privileged. Then they don't count at all. You're right, there's not a lot of difference between Australia and a number of countries in that regard. Many thanks, Craig

Bahahaha. I did enjoy this one quite a bit, and gosh-darn it's good to see some Australian topical information on worldwide sites on the internet (although our politics is so ridiculous, I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the world thought it was satire!).

Thanks, Robbie. When I get really depressed about how loony our pollies are, I just turn on World News on SBS and I'm pretty soon feeling good about things again lol

There's so much to this short work, Craig, that I read both the poem and your notes carefully. I did notice your little dig at the US, well-deserved I might add. The term budgie smugglers is a new one for me, but I find it to be hilarious and potentially useful. Then you worked 'after-roll' into the mix. It's really a very clever poem, I enjoyed it and your notes very much :))

Thanks so much, Carol. I thought poking a bit of fun at my own local pollies might provide a bit of a change of pace lol. Most grateful for the kind comments :)

A great summary of recent political events here. My wife is an addict when it comes to political news. I am sure that all her hours of watching have been more than adequately summarised in your version!

Thanks so much for the very kind comments, Tony, and the wonderful rating. Sometimes it seems there's not much skill involved in dissecting political events here -- it could be done with a loop tape; or to borrow a washing metaphor, "rinse and repeat". Conveniently, it doesn't seem to matter which side of the political spectrum is under discussion! Many thanks, Craig

Good job, Craig, with your limerick for your word a day poem. Your lines flow smoothly and the form is true. I like the picture you paired with your words. Thanks for the notes. It seems your political parties are infighting and making it complicated to understand. But I like that you said you still are glad to live there. I feel the same way about the USA. Thanks for haring. Jan

Of course, Jan. Any country is far more than the buffoons that control it. Many thanks, Craig

Hi, Craig,

Great use of today's word and a lesson in British politics.

I loved the poem and the explanation. Only wish I had a sixth star for you,

patty

Hi Craig, what a great use of the limerick to convey your political satire. I loved the use of double meanings in the vernacular. It made for a multilayered and clever write. What fun poking at your politicians!

A very well-written poem about political leaders who quickly get nicknames when they are elected to lead the country some names are good others bad. Some leaders deserve their nicknames others not.

Nicknames are a fact of life here, Sandra, and not just for politicians -- for everyone. As you say, some are deserved, and some not. Not all of them are unkind. Many thanks, Craig

I both enjoyed and learned through your piece. I was glad to have read it. Such a clever and informative poem. I would try to submit to a political newspaper!

This is not an expressed I use or heard of. We say after-math more often than not. There is often some kind of up rising in political circles, a clever poem, love Dolly x
