Hi Craig, being a sailor most of my life i sort of guessed what the word Neptunist meant. Well, also from the Sea God Neptune, of course. A lovely poem you've composed here. I liked it a lot. All the best. Ulla:))

Many thanks, Ulla. Yes, I think if anyone picked up the meaning straight away, it would be yourself :)
Comment from Gloria ....
A perfectly written sonnet, Craig. Not only in terms of metre and rhyme but also the volta and couplet. And what a gnarly lot we humanoids are, but we is the best, yes?
Much enjoyed and well worth the six.

We is the woist, Gloria (I'm going all gangsta on you -- impressive, eh?)
Many thanks for the lovely shiny stars, and the much appreciated compliment :)

Ah. A sonnet. How delightful. You always come at your subject material from such interesting angles - I like how your speaker starts with some daydreamlike imagination and ends with a satisfying return to reality. Well done.

I do agree! I look at history and marvel at how many lands were colonized simply by the show of more powerful weaponry. Good illustration of the word which connects clearly to Neptune, the god of the ocean.

Thanks very much, Helen. It seems "conquering" has been our way since time immemorial.

Hi Craig, you've penned a good poem with a wise message about living in the present and being content with smaller pastures. We don't always need high adventure or glory to be happy and fulfilled. Excellent use of the daily word as well.

I DO like the word Neptunist. I guess so far that's my favorite. Your poem has good rhyme, flow and is interesting. The sea captivates us all, I think. Great job. Marilyn

Thanks, Marilyn. It seems the book has a lot of words relating to a nautical theme. Cheers, Craig

I knew the word had to do with the sea because of Neptune--God of the Sea. Good job, Craig, with your poem. It reads smoothly with good rhymes. I like your message. Even though you would enjoy some of the time you speak of, the here and now commands your attention. Thanks for sharing. Jan

A very well-written poem about childhood dreams that seem not very viable when we are grown up and see for ourselves how the real world is working.

Because navigating the mess that seems to be the current time is work enough for anyone!! :) :) Great sonnet and love the visual of a young knave on the deck in full naval dress uniform....yeah, she's old but she's not dead!! :) :) LOL! Thanx for sharing, Craig! :) Yvette

Hi Craig,
"Neptunist" ... yay ... a word that I could figure out before reading the poem. :)
Yes, although the grass seems greener on the other side, we can be thankful for the times in which we live in. It may not be perfect, but it could be a whole lot worse.
I like the approach that you took in writing this ... to have a childhood dream of becoming a "Neptunist of note", and then in adulthood to realize that it really wasn't a practical dream to have. An adult can see the downside of it.
Excellent rhyming and good imagery created for your reader, as well as a very good message conveyed.
Cheers,
Connie
