One Line Poem: To hear is not to listen...27 total reviews

Such few words state a huge problem. People need to pay attention more and really listen to each other for problems to be solved. The artwork is perfect for the
poem.
Congrats on placing second in the contest.

Hello Joan!
So pleased you enjoyed!
I used to teach study skills at the high school and college level. Students were always so perplexed when I would tell them that all of them were capable of hearing, but many of them were so self-absorbed they were choosing not to listen!
Made for some spirited conversation!
Thank you again!

I had a meeting with my store manager on Monday, it was awful. He wasn't listening to what I was saying. He just talking, he didn't get it. This one line is everything I felt about that meeting. There are no words to what he made me feel. Just awful, but I loved this. Perfect timing for this to pop up.

KT: great wisdom of listening when someone talks. We need to act
and help one another. So many ladies sit and cry. Let's reach out and
chat with someone. We all need friends. Great one liner. flylikeaneagle

I like this Mrs. KT. A strong and powerful message is conveyed here. I think that one can hear but choose not to list because that would require an action as you've stated in your excellent accompanying artwork. Thanks for sharing so much in so few words. Great job and well done!

Hello Jeffrey!
I believe so many people never listen because they are thinking about what they are going to say next!
Thank you for your excellent rating and review!
Much appreciated!

Hi, Diane,
Your piece reminds me of the 'active' listener. You know the type - they believe they are fooling everyone. They say the correct things at the right time, but in all actuality, they are thinking about anything but what you're saying.
Good luck to you in the contest,
~MP~

Hello, dear friend.
Lots of substance in this powerful one line, Insightful,. Intense. Effective. A strong entry! My only suggestion is to remove the word CAN for more potent voicing:
Frustrated tears glisten when one hears, yet chooses not to listen...
Please read both versions aloud to decide.
Good luck in the contest!
Love,

Good Morning, rd!
I agree! Eliminating the "can" = streamlining and a smoother flow, yet still effective.
If the voting has not begun, I will edit.
Thank you again!

Hello,
This one line poem has such a powerful and deep message. I'm reminded of the Simon and Garfunkle song, 'Sound of Silence'.
"People hearing without listening..."
It is frustrating and yet your words remind me, I can be guilty of the same. Each day brings about it's lessons.
Thanks for sharing.

Comment from Gloria ....
This is exceptional Diane. One line, perfectly written and did you ever hit on a profound wisdom. Listening should be taught in school in my opinion.
Fantastic entry into the contest and I wish you much luck with the Contest Committee. :)

Hello Gloria!
I taught study skills at the high school and college level. Students were always taken aback when I confronted them with hearing versus listening. Never mind the added element of cell phones!
Thank you again!
