This limerick, My Hat, has the basic format and asks for a little respect for the man's topper. I think the beat would be well served by eliminating the word bald. That extra syllable tips the lid a bit to the left.

    Hi Bill, The syllable count is 8-8-5-5-8, meter anapestic. Thanks for the suggestion, and for your continued support in reading these little ditties. Cheers, Craig

I wonder what four-and-nine stands for? Cheap hats are the best though and you don't have to worry about hat hair which always looks incredibly awkward.

A fine limerick friend, Craig. You must have Dollarama over there, yes?

Enjoyed.

    We have the $2 Shop, which I'm guessing is the same concept? Although it's long ago, if ever, that everything in there was $2 or less. My favourite hat was picked up at a Salvation Army Op Shop. Many thanks, Gloria :)

What a fun phrase, 'four-and-nine!' We have a phrase for cheap stores 'five and dime' store so a 'four-and-nine' must be a penny cheaper. These days, we have the Dollar Store which probably won't last due to our current relationship with just about all the cheap-manufacturing countries.

    Yes, well, your esteemed leader certainly isn't helping in that regard, Helen. Many thanks :) Craig

Great write. I enjoyed reading your limerick. My son shaves his head but has grown a big, bushy beard instead. Not my cup of tea, but it's his face. Four and nine... a good term for cheap goods. Marilyn

    Well, I think your son shows excellent judgement, Marilyn. Thanks for enjoying my poem. Craig

    I have to be on my "toes" with my kids. They are a heck of a lot smarter than old mom.

A very well-written Limerick about the needed hat in the hot summer sun. It is a better idea to put on a hat than to get your brains fried and your head skin burn red from the son.

    It most certainly is, Sandra. My skin wasn't made for this climate. Thanks, ancestors. Cheers, Craig

Hi Craig,

This is a cute Limerick that conveys the meaning of 'four-and-nine' well to your reader, Craig. "My much-loved lid" .... my fave part. Thanks for teaching me another new word. I wish I could get my better half to put on a 'four-and-nine' when he bakes in the sun.

Cheers,
Connie

    Send him down to the melanoma capital of the world for a little while, Connie. He might get the idea :) Many thanks, Craig

Hey, Craig,

reading on the run, but I wanted to say, I read this poem and enjoyed and only had one suggestion for consideration...

My hat, I must say, is just fine;
(My hat, I must say, fits? just fine;

instead of is?

Other than that quick thought, the limerick has a playful appreciation for apparel that might not be fancy or expensive, but sits atop the head and gets the job done to satisfaction, plus affinity.

Hi, Craig,

A very nice poem and lovely picture to describe a hat that some would consider 'cheap.' It is hard to know the difference between a good hat and one that is inferior, so I just pick the ones I like - whereas I always buy good ones for the hubby. His balding hat needs a good cover,

Thank you for sharing your new word with us,

~MP~

    Thanks very much, once again. I have a couple of hats, but my "fun" one is a cheapie :) Cheers, Craig.

    "Really good, amazing...", so I hope you don't mind if I ask if you really mean to grade it 4 stars? I only ask because 4 stars is meant to be for work that requires corrections. If you did, fair enough, but sometimes people accidentally pick the wrong option from the drop down. Your comments make me think you judged it better than that.
