Hi, Craig,

Such a cute little poem to bring this new word to life. Do you really collect teddy bears? I can just see you having to take them off your bed at night. Do you kiss each one like my kids used to?

LOL - just teasing.

Actually, I take turns. Sometimes, I read them stories. Once in a while, they read me stories ;-)

    Many thanks, Patty!

Hi Craig. I wonder about the origin of arcto. . Phile is a coveter so it makes sense that a collector would covet the item. Of course, who doesn't like teddy bears? Argos is Greek for bear. Makes sense. Philos means loving. I'd collect stuffed spider monkeys if there were no stuffed bears. Thank you for sharing

    Hi Pam,

Apparently, Arktos (according to my book) is another form of the Greek word for bear (very similar to what you said), so that seems to be where it comes from. Many thanks for the great review. Craig

Lol. Now this is one I did write about back in August. Good old Teddy Roosevelt and the Greek word for bear have given us such a well loved stuffed toy that is enjoyed by all ages!

I wish I still had my childhood Teddy. He was what could best be described as "well-loved" lol Cheers, Craig

Oh, I love it. I'm glad there's a name for it--'arctophile.' Count me in. I have three teddys. One I bought for myself and my husband gave me the other two. Good rhyming. Marilyn

Very nice, Marilyn. I wish I'd hung on to the teddy bear I had as a child. By the time he'd gone (to where, I have no idea), he was very much the worse for wear. Cheers, Craig

I just happen to think it's a stroke of genius to name all your stuffed bears, Ted. It saves a lot of memorization or worse yet, name tags. When one finds a perfectly good name it should be used frequently and often too.

A most fun post, Craig. Say hi to Ted for me. :)

I most certainly will, Gloria. My bear collection will one day be passed on to my children - Terry, Terry, Terry and Teri :)

    Many thanks once again, Craig

A very well-written Limerick. The collector of teddy bears is called an arctophile, a very interesting collector name. A teddy bear is a great toy for a baby boy not as fragile as a girlie doll.

The one I had as a child certainly copped some rough treatment, if I recall correctly. Many thanks, Sandra.

Here you are with another good and new word to me. I don't have teddy bears any longer, but used to have them, All our children had teddy bears are little ones. You used very good words and great descriptive words letting us know how the word is used. Blessings, Teri

Thanks so much, Teri. I wish I still had my childhood teddy bear. Apparently, many people do. It was far too late when I realised that things from our childhood can have value, none of them remain. Cheers, Craig

That is so true. I got rid of my barbies and their clothes. That would have been some money probably.

Well, you have masterly used the word, nicely told the story, and shown your role how to exemplify the word in practice; well said, well done. Keep Writing -- DR ALCREATOR

Never fear, Craig, collecting teddy bears will not go out of fashion. Your poem reads like a limerick. Good job on its rhymes and smooth flow. No China dolls for you, but you know that. Thanks for sharing. Jan

Maybe I need to start collecting for real :) I occasionally wish I still had my childhood one. Thanks, Jan :)

I enjoyed this. My granddaughter would, too, as she collects bears and other animals. Your use of ARCTOPHILE seemed very natural. Rod

Thanks very much, Rod. I would encourage your granddaughter's passion. Collecting can not only be fun, but financially rewarding. Unless, like me, the only thing you hoard is useless junk :) Cheers, Craig
