I'm so glad I had a six to give you for this fantastic story and hilarious account of your Thanksgiving. I am right along side of you with the black olives and the avocado green carving knife. Wow! The only difference is I was born in '67. You had me laughing so hard that my tears have soaked my shirt! I got to sawdust and completely had to stop reading because I couldn't see. I composed myself and continued. Now I can blame the runny nose and side pain on you! Great set up for this story and I love your perspective. Ms. Law, you are one funny lady! Thank you for sharing such a entertaining, enjoyable and uplifting story. Cheers, Fonda

Thank you so much, dear Fonda. I am so appreciative of the sixer and your review. My goal is always to tell my stories in such a way as to draw my readers into the scene so they can laugh along with me ( or cry). I am so glad I gave you a good laugh! Great success for me! My life was so colorful, I have had many to tell.
All my best,
Sally

Oh, this was hilarious. I'm so glad we never played with an electric carving knife, even though I can't carve for toffee. Sounds like it was all great fun in the end. Well done on the deserved SOM win.
One nit, think you might mean single-handedly in the first paragraph, not single-handily.
A great window into a family day!

Thank you so much for the excellent review and critique. I am so glad you enjoyed my story. I fixed single-handedly. Thank you for catching that. I am a blind writer and I miss all kinds of things. Apparently, so do my reviewers. Oh my! LOL!
All my best,
Sally

HI Sally, so sorry I am so late reading your Thanksgiving story...but it did make me laugh sweet girl...reminded me of National Lampoon's Christmas vacation...the movie...when they cut their turkey...LOL...but all in all...you still had a great Thanksgiving...minus the olives...very well written my sweet friend...and I love the picture...a vote well deserved you...love you...Linda xxoo
some years back my mother told me about these new bags you could cook your turkeys in...well!!!...I like to stay in tradition...but I told her I would try one...I didn't like it from the start...but...I put the bird in the bag...and cut a small slice in the bag so the steam could get out...after about an hour or so...I smelled smoke in the oven...LOL...I open it...and the turkey exploded...and the oven caught on fire...I put the fire out...and tried to save the turkey...I went back to tradition...I wrapped it in foil...and basted it like year ago...it turned out to be good...just a bit chard...LOL...otherwise not bad...the hole I had cut in the bag had sealed to the turkeys skin...and the pressure in the bag built up...and BOOM....LOL...out of all the beautiful turkeys I cooked over the years...that is the turkey my kids tell everyone about...hmmmm....LOL...love you...xxoo

Sally, this was truly heartwarming from beginning to end. I loved that it was a true story. I still can't get over your word choices, punctuation, grammar and paragraph spacing. This is a rare talent now-a-days. You peaked my interest within the first paragraph, and wrapped up your story perfectly in the last. You also had me laughing about half-way through. Awesome writing, my friend!

Oh, yes, it was peaceful and happy as my granddaughter came with her hubby and baby. Even my son was here who usually avoids any type of get-togethers.Only one missing was my daughter who went for her first holiday to Colorado with a friend.
Smiles, all smiles...

Happy Thanksgiving Sally! This was fun to read! We are in Asheville, NC waiting for James to start his new job this next Monday. We are on vacation in a little bitty one bedroom place in a little town called Black Mountain, NC. We went to Denny's for breakfast. Went to the lake they have here and sat in rockers and looked at the water My husband's favorite thing to do. Then we went to Denny's again and got our Thanksgiving Dinner. They took way too long to fix it for us to eat it there. So we took it to go since we were (James) wanted to get back in time to watch the kick off for the Dallas game. Since it took so long to get our dinner they gave it to us for free. We went back to our little shoebox and had our dinner. James watched the game and I took a nap. That was the extent of what we did for Thanksgiving this year. I did find one little typo in this sentence:
It was soon forgotten as the crowing (crowning)event was brought forth with applause and accolades. The turkey looked so good and my mouth was watering from the heavenly aroma.
I also LOVE Black Olives! My Mom would always buy a can of black olives just for me for Thanksgiving! Good times!

Thank you for the excellent review and critique! I fixed crowning. Everyone missed that, dear Katy. Thank you. I am glad you had a nice Thanksgiving and it was granted to you at no charge! My husband and I were just in North Carolina a week ago to enjoy the remaining fall foliage and see his brother. It was so beautiful!
All my best,
Sally

That sure was a Thanksgiving to remember! Its good that everything wasn't perfectly cooked and that something funny happened to break the ice. Good for you for being the first one to laugh and roll on the floor!
