I too believe that everlasting life is in the memories that others have, as my parents live on in my mind I hope I do in my children's or I might come back and haunt them LOL. I love this word, it's a beauty and well used in this poem Craig,
cheers,

LOL now that would be something, wouldn't it? I'd like to try that -- just to see the looks on their faces :) Thanks so much, Valda. Cheers, Craig

The thing that brings true meaning to our lives
is surely that one day we reach the end.
The only part of us that still survives
is stored within the minds of loves and friends.
I so respected the way you wrote this poem, its a poem not only us writers at Fanstory should read it, but everybody young and old. You made rhyming so smoothly, as if it was a talk between 2 friends. Loved that verse that I copied. Good luck with your book. Love Terry xoxo

This sonnet, no Rough Draft, makes the most of your new-found word by comparing it to us. Yes, we are best made immortal by what we leave in hearts and minds.

Thanks once again. Two poems in a row on a similar theme, but the next is a bit of a change of pace (and subject). Cheers, Craig

I love your thought that our mortality is stored in the mind of love's and friends. Depressing but oh so true. Somewhere else today I read that while we take our next breath, someone else is taking their last. The idea of course, like yours, is to value the day.
You have a wonderful evening , Craig. This was nice.

Hi, Craig,
You are so right on this - I often wonder about those who live 'for their Heavenly awards.' What about the time here?
I love my life - I am so lucky and blessed. When it comes to its end, I do hope the legacy I leave here on earth is just as important as where my soul ends up,

Thanks very much, Patty. I think what you express is a nice concept. If, on balance, the good we bring into the world is more than the harm we cause, I think that's something to aim for. Cheers, Craig

Hi Craig. I was reading a different poem today and thought of you. Those discussions we have wondering why Christians who believe in a pleasant afterlife awaits, are still afraid of death. That shows that their beliefs are not that strong after all. I hope I make it to three scores and ten. I enjoyed your poem. Thank you for sharing

If I make it to three score and ten, I'll have done better than both my parents. I've already outdone my grandparents :) Thanks very much, Pam. Craig

A very well-written poem about our lives on earth that we usually do not know how to get through it but God gives as a brain to be able to figure out how our lives should be lived.

Thanks very much, Sandra. It's a shame many of us don't use it more often. Cheers, Craig

Hi Craig, I agree that we should live each moment as if it only mattered. That's ultimately how we take on accountability in our lives. Love the philosophy here and a clever incorporation of the word of the day. Well done.

Thanks so much for the wonderful comments and the delightful rating, Pam. The words in my little book seem to have been thematically linked for several days now, so it's a challenge not to make every piece essentially the same. Most grateful, Craig

This is a great poem, Craig, about how each of us should lead our lives. Your words/lines have great flow and rhymes. Your message is loud and clear. One cannot go back to make things right, so do the best you can while you are able. Thanks for sharing. Jan

Comment from Gloria ....
Very nicely written sonnet, Craig. Three score year and ten of course considered the life span of a man according to Psalm 90:10 and further expounded by Shakespeare and others. I wonder what they would think of lifespans now?
This reminds of the other quote your wrote about the dog that just had ridiculous great fun romping in the soggy world. That's the prize.
Great job and always a pristine metre and rhyme.

Thanks so much for the lovely comments, Gloria. Dogs are such wonderful role models, they have so much to teach us, as my own little Bella has reminded me just this past week. Maybe, if I get time, I'll write something about it. Most grateful, Craig
