This story is beautifully eye-misting, Sal. I find it disheartening to imagine a loving married couple being kept apart, unless one of them had a seriously contagious disease capable of harming the other; but that is not the case in your story.
(I'm glad both of my parents were able to live at home until each of their last few days. They had been together fifty-four years when he passed at nearly eighty-seven. She lived another eleven years to almost ninety.)
This post displayed your skills with suspense, plausible dialog, and detailed description which blossomed so well later in your love and mystery stories.
Being different (as you know) from most people, I skimmed through the food talk. Once the two of you were together, though, every word and event was as perfect as could be. I particularly liked the dance to the music of memories no one else could hear. Most of all, I love the last few words -- "... walkers side by side, and their hearts as one."
May you have many more years together, without the separation in this story.
Superb. (The photo has vanished, but the story stands well on its own. I'm glad to have helped with the technicalities of posting that video of the song which means so much to you and Jack.)

Up late and checking out my older posts, I see. I'm am so blessed by this, my friend. So... you enjoyed it and teared a bit? My work here is complete. I changed the photo this morning if you'd like to look. I just grabbed something quick. It was low tide on FanArt today. I've had a lot of disappearing art these days, even contest winners. I think we should be alerted when this happens. Oh well. Thanks again for the shower of stars this morning. :))

You are most welcome, Sal.
Yes, it is lovely, but sad about their separate quarters.
I stopped using FanArt because of vanishing images. If you upload your own from regular image sources, they don't vanish -- even if they disappear from the original source website. For images to accompany poems or prose in a book, standard sources are better.
Anyway, I like this story with or without illustration. -- Mike

What a wonderful, heart warming story in this poem. How lucky these two people are. It left me lifted and hopeful and not so apprehensive (may just be another word for frightened) about the future. It read so fluidly. Quite a gift for a lengthy
tale. Thanks. Dorinda

Thank you so much for the excellent review and kind words. This is based on my husband and me and our true life love story. We are not in a nursing home, but we have been happily married for a long time. We know that as long as we have each other, we will always have love. I weaved it into a story of our possible future. So glad you liked it.
All my best,
Sal :+)

What a darling story. I enjoyed all of it. I was worried that he wouldn't show up, but then he did and you explained why. Love that lasts a lifetime is something to treasure. Marilyn

Thank you so much, dear Dolly. I am glad it did not disappoint. We are already planning our Valentine?s Day dinner. I usually cook and then later in the week when it?s less crowded we go out for dinner.
All my best,

Very touching story filled with wonderful imagery that you have created. Very well written, as I believe most of us hope this becomes our story. Van Morrison also sings my wife's wedding song, ours is Into the Mystic.

Thank you, dear Poppa. I am glad you liked my story and that you and your wife have a special bond and Van Morrison song, too. It is refreshing to hear. I am a blind writer and already have special needs. I hope we are always able to be in our together until we pass on. But, I know if that is not the case, I am sure we will always love each other no matter what. I hope that for you, too.
All my best,
Sal :+)

Excellent! This really a cute story that can't help make one smile. It isn't the typical take on romantic stories making it stand out. The simplicity of the story captures the simplicity of true love. Very enjoyable!

You are such a dear. Thank you for the excellent review and kind words. So glad you are happily married. My husband says that to me and makes me feel young, even though the mirror says otherwise. I am glad you enjoyed it.
All my best,

What a touching story. Very creative. I felt the anticipation of Sal waiting for her husband...( I'm going to make a confession. I scrolled down to make sure this was going to be a 'happy' story. IF he didn't make it I wasn't going to read. ( I didn't want to be sad tonight. Once I saw he showed up I went back and read the whole story.)
Very well done. I felt the love. Great job!!

Aw, thank you for your true confession. I appreciate the superb rating and kind words. I am glad you were encouraged by my piece. My husband and I just celebrated our 43 wedding anniversary in December. We were at a restaurant celebrating with cards, and our young server made the same comment as in the story. She stopped us on our way out to speak to us personally. It was sweet of her to say that. The memory of that prompted this story.
All my best to you and yours. I hope you are well and good.

Thank you for the excellent review and kind words. My husband and I both cried when we read this together. Van Morrison technically can?t sing, but he sounds like no other. He packs such emotion and soul into his music. A real gift. I also like, ?Someone Like You, by Van the Man. So glad you enjoyed this.
All my best,
Sal

his emotion and soul is what make him one of the best--ever. 'course I like Dylan, Neil Young and Cohen. so go figure.

This is a wonderful story of love and life together after so many years. I enjoyed the endearing touches to make one another smile and the importance of saying and showing love and affection after many years of marriage. It felt somewhat sad that husband and wife live on opposite sides of the nursing home but I don't know about such procedures. An enjoyable and feel good read. ~DD
