I love this verse and the beautiful sentiment it generates in all of us. When we see a thing of beauty, it is natural that we want to participate. Well done Steve and congrats on this well-deserved win.

Beautiful, sometimes when you look at birds you wish you could fly. It is awesome.
You have the right amount of syllables per line.
Congratulations on your wins.

Thank you for the kind words and six-star rating.
Yes, I think this is a wish many of us share and may be why the judges liked it!

Hi Steve,
Congratulations on winning this contest! Your little poem is well done and truly inspirational :) I'd like to have wings too. The heron is a beautiful bird, but I see myself more as a white owl. I'll see you in the air sometime and do a flypast.

Maybe your owl will be waking up just as my heron is going to sleep!
Thanks for the kind words and well done on your placing in this contest.

You're quite welcome, Steve, it was my pleasure...and certainly worthy of the 6 stars...

Outstanding poem, congrats on winning the contest! I suspect that most earthbound beings gaze upward at a bird on the wing from time to time and yearn to float above on the breeze.

Hi, Chip - welcome to FanStory.
Thanks for the kind words. Indeed, it seems to be a universal desire. One reviewer christened it Icarus Envy.

Beautiful five seven five Kiwi - I really love these majestic birds. I used to watch them all the time in the Sam Houston National Forest in Texas. A lovely contest entry.

Thank you! We live amidst farmland and regularly see grey herons - they are a delight.

I enjoyed reading your contest entry. I have often wondered what it would be like to fly, myself. I think it would be a wonderful feeling. I wish you the best of luck with the contest.

-Very nice image and presentation, Steve.
-The syllable count is good.
-The heron is one of my favorite birds.
-They are graceful, and very peaceful, too.
-Your imagery is effective, and I like
how you identify with the heron
in the conclusion.
-Good luck in the contest.

Thanks, Pam. We quite often see herons here, both soaring overhead and stalking around the farm paddocks next door...

You are lucky to have them. We seem to have one in our area; rarely do we see two.
