Hello there, my friend. This is a lovely poem. There's nothing better than a Summer's day on the farm. Nature at it's best. Good luck! ~Kerry

Wow this is a great poem! I see why it won, it deserved it. You can feel the warmth of the memory of that farm and of your grandfather. It also has a lot of longing for the past but also a willingness to rejoice in remembering it despite it bringing the sad memories of your grandpa. Overall a really deep, meaningful, and personal poem. I really enjoyed it!

This lovely piece of poetry brought so many good memories back to me of being with my grandfather on the farm. So many children missed out on that wonderful experience. You have captured the very essence of it here and it took me back, the sounds, the smells, the closeness of being with Grandpa. Excellent piece. You should frame this one and hang it in your living space! :)

Thank you so much, Wendy, for this wonderful review of A SUMMER DAY. I am delighted I could take you back in time and put you there with your grandfather on his farm. I will not frame this, but I do plan to share it with my eight-year-old granddaughter. I also truly appreciate the bonanza of bright stars. Rod

My mom grew up on a farm and talked about how she would drink the milk straight from the cow. That was a big thing around us a couple years ago. I think there was law suit or something like that. Crazy. Memories will always be there that's for sure

Hi meeshu. Thank you for sharing A SUMMER DAY and your kind praise. I hadn?t thought about whet kind of music should be playing in the background, but Beethoven does seem appropriate. Rod

Simplicity is sometimes grander than grand. Lovely choice of words and quite the catalyst for our own memories. Thinking about the farms we've been on is such a wonderful reverie. But apart from the scenery and the animals, yes, it is the people we spent time with that give us the warm feeling in our heart. Lovely poem.

This is lovely and I can see why it is a winner. I grew up on a farm and while I didn't have a grandpa to share these experiences with, I can definitely relate to them.
I enjoyed each line with excellent rhyme and good use of alliteration..
Well done.
Blessings

Very nicely done. Perfect rhythm and rhyme. A worthy contest winner.
You have some good use of alliteration, too - and lines like this one roll off the tongue melodiously:
"on grass knee-high, lush green and sweet" Great use of assonance with the long 'ee' sounds.
I now see myself in the role of grandpa. It would have been good to have had my little granddaughter out with me when I was feeding the cows this morning. I shall have to brush up on my stories before her next visit!

Hi Tony. Thank you for taking the time to read A SUMMER DAY closely and your kind praise. When one becomes a grandpa, the storytelling begins. My granddaughter prefers my poems to my ?live? impromptu tales. Rod
