Thanks for your supportive review! I was intrigued about not using the 'a' and was amazed I could get so many lines that still made sense.

There are hummers around her e- but not at our hous e- we've tried every way to lure them here and they just ignore us. perhaps it's too cold at night still. So I feel for you wanting some hummers.

I love those dear precious little birds, and you have written (without using the letter 'A') a very beautiful poem about your encounter with the hummingbird, your observances, and your need (for the joy they bring you). Beautiful artwork, as well.
This is a wonderful contest entry. Best wishes!

Thank you so much for this lovely review.
It is such a pity that these delightful birds don't live where I live.

Okay, I gotta tell ya this. Three summers ago. Watering in my garden. The hummingbird approached, the garden hose spraying. It hovered. Around the central spray. Gotta say. A bit freaked out, as it lingered. Then, going in abruptly, the hose a course. Getting a drink, continued on...

What a lovely thing for you to witness that thirsty little hummingbird.
Thanks for checking out my poem.

I have never heard so much said about a hummingbird and without the use of the letter "A". I grew up in PA and we have them there. I never thought about the fact that they would not be in other places. Now I feel I have taken them for granted.

Oh please do not take those little flying gems for granted! I am very aware of species extinction... I adore diversity of life forms; taking things for granted is the slippery slope to other people taking advantage, then before we know it, the habitat is lost, the food source is lost, species are hunted to oblivion, fashion wants its feathers, or some darn thing leads to them not being there at all.
There, that's me up on my soap box for the day.

Mystery poet I gave you your third vote!

I love the subject you chose

Those wee creatures are so beautiful ..those coloured feathers that shimmer in the sunlight are truly mesmerising.

...the second poem I wrote on fanstory last year when I enrolled was about a hummingbird.

I would have liked to enter this contest but I just couldn't combine the right words without using the letter A.

You made it look easy.

Kudos to you ..you not only wrote a lengthy poem but a delightful one that also rhymes well.

Must you flitter on by,
in the blink of my eye?

Bright hummingbird-
of your lovely zing my thoughts do sing.

Two of my favourite lines.

Thank you so much for your lovely review and for voting for my hummingbird. It sure was a hard job to sustain a poem with no access to using the letter 'a'. It really shows how useful that letter is, but also how possible it is to do without it at a pinch. Maybe the letter 'e' would be even harder to lose.

What an eye-catching subject for a poem without the letter A! You make me want to set up a nectar feeder right away because I live in California. Your words certainly do "show how much...glow" the bright hummingbirds bring! I enjoyed all of your internal and end rhymes plus the striking picture. Best wishes in the contest- Joan

Thanks for this review. I fell in love with those hovering gems in California; what a pity they don't live at my place.

I was thinking about the hummingbird who does not sing but brings beauty triple-fold with his OUTER beauty. ... just as their are mute humans who can not talk but have an INNER beauty- Lobber

It's interesting to me that they don't sing... maybe that would be an overdose of beauty and their share got used up with their colourful plumage. Inner beauty is certainly just as important... the colourful feathers are on the inside, like a hummingbird turned inside out!

It is very difficult to write something without using an important vowel like 'a'. You mastered the task and it is a joy to encounter your strong rhymes about a subject dear to my heart. Hummingbirds are feisty little things and very territorial. We have a lot of them where I live.

Thank you! I only saw them the once and loved how gem-like they were. So tiny to be so feisty!

A very well-written poem about the beautiful hummingbird that entertains us with his wonderful way of humming and hovering while he feeds, and the whole poem was written without using the letter 'a'.
