Congrats on your well-deserved prize. This is poignant and humorous both--a rare feat to pull off! I missed the release--so glad I caught up. Cheers. LIZ

Thanks Liz, for the congrats and for reviewing a one and two center. I haven't graced the podium since 2008/9, albeit third, but hopefully I might do even better next time lol! xoxo

You've got two up on me--I haven't even got so much as mention for my entries!

Keep trying. I get so jaded because I haven't won a Site contest for 12 years, but coming third gives me a sliver of hope. Your work is really good, and deserving of a win, so don't give up!

Thanks for the virtual vote!

I so enjoy your beautiful poetry, Princess! Your ability to tell a story in a poem is truly exceptional! Your rhyming flows beautifully--never forced. The rhythm, as well, on point! Well worthy of a six, but as I am out, please accept a virtual one. Hugs, Seraph ~

The poem definitely tells a story and the story is heartfelt. Mentoring is so essential and in this story, very welcome. Loyalty is rife in the military, for each one watching each other's backs. It is something very hard to define.

It is, that's for sure. It exists in the police force, and among nurses as well.
Thank you, Raffaelina, for a thoughtful review xoxoxo

The author's words were descriptive, heartfelt and creative. The reader
pondered on the theme of this poem. I really liked the last stanza.
Such a beautiful tribute to "your mate Ray". The poem flows and connects well.

I usually enter the Share a Story in a Poem contest (heck, I won the last one) but, after reading this, I'm not sure I will. This is incredible!! The plot, the character development, the dialect, even the picture you chose are all amazing. I've commented before on how well you speak from the male perspective, and this further proves my point. If they fail to acknowledge this as one of the winners, preferably in first place, I will fully agree with you on a certain other point you've made before.

Oh gee...this really makes my day! I know you're not an habitual six-giver, so to get one from you is an achievement on its own. Then to add the comments you've made; you don't know what an extreme thrill it is to hear you say what you've said about this.
I'm not holding out much hope for it though, due to reasons alluded to in your review. But I don't care, because this is a poem that when first written, I hated it. Then tweaked and added a bit more and here it is. Again, thank you so much for what you said my friend; it means a lot to me xoxoxoxoxox

You're welcome, Chris. You so deserve the six (which, you're right, I do give out sparingly) and the comments. If I like something but don't love it, I'll give nice comments, but I don't rave, as I did about this, unless something is so good that nothing less would do. That's definitely the case here. Also, I never ever give sixes or raves based on friendship, only on talent.

I think this is a good entry for the Share a Story in a Poem contest.
This verse is well written and nicely rhymed. The story is clear and very well told.
Well done and I wish you good luck with the contest.

What a wonderful though sad, heart breaking read this is, you made a friend but there are so many more down sides in this story, an excellent journey you have taken us on, very well written and best wishes for your contest****kahpot

So sad. And you told this story beautifully. You told it very much like a man would of his best military mate.
I really liked "cocooned by some divine
protection, and I almost dared to hope we'd both survive."
Question:
"Or crawling through the blood and guts, your spirit fairly spent," (who is the "your" referring to? hypothetical? Ray? or perhaps, "my" in this case?)

Well done poem of what so many did go through in the wars - heartbreak, grief, sad situations - every day something scary at times. A good look through this story poem of what it's like.
