This is a beautiful poem! It appears to have been penned with great feeling and faith. Free verse was written extremely well. Thank you for sharing! God bless!

Thank you for sharing this poem. It begins with a sense of desperation " gripping tight-fisted to the handrail of life," but ends with the clarion call from above to "just believe" and, there is the simplicity of Salvation offered to mankind by God in John 3:16 "For God so loved the World that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him shall not parish but have everlasting life." Just believe. Well done.

Frank you, the message is then loud and clear, we are never alone, we just, at times, close our hearts to the one and All Almighty. Rest In Peace this Memorial weekend.

This is a very beautifully crafted free verse poem, that uses skilful metaphor, fabulous phrasing, and excellent presentation. My favourite was your first three lines:
Caught in the ink-black undertow of living
just one wrong step away
from a deepening abyss,
"the ink-black undertow of living" - really paints a sombre picture of how life can bog a person down in the depths.

Comment from Bill Schott
This free verse, The Whisper of Words, works through the dark images of confusion and searching....
"living just one wrong step away from a deepening abyss,
gripping tight-fisted to the handrail of life"
...to the clearing and brightening of hope and faith.
"before my bleary tear sodden eyes, catching a slowly glowing, whiteness that is near blinding in its intensity,
there"
Nicely worded poem.

This is so good,Jim. The rolling movement is so well written that it sets the whole piece into motion. I loved it in class and I doubly love this free verse now. So well done!!

This is a wonderful tribute to your classmates! You must have had such a lot of fun on-line talking and swapping ideas and Jim did a fine job teaching you all. I enjoyed your free-write, this seems to be an area where you excel in poetry and I enjoyed every word here and I loved your conclusion, always believe in yourself, love Dolly x

This is truly a beautiful free verse poem, JLR. I loved the ethereal feel the one step on earth and the other in the next world feel.
And I'm so glad to see you have made some wonderful friends in your poetry class!

Thank you for your evocative poem especially during these challenging times. I particularly admired your title and "handrail" metaphor, plus ultimately finding hope in just believing. Cheers- Joan

This is a beautiful free verse poem. It gives freedom to the flow of your thoughts, so poeticallyh written, and therefore, so well felt in this heart that things a lot, of things above my comprehension.

Brave , remind me the balance tendent to rage flowing or marble in the fossa of heart .Digging into the iron with the rust , the bell of belif ring during the dark , as the root of trees nail into the ground ,strand of light shine into the crack of egg that gloogy color cover the rainbow below .
