Beautiful inspiration and a genuine call for a to extend friendship to all and even to a stranger. It could be actually refreshing to take a break from the things that make news the world wants us to seen and venture into putting smile on the faces of humanity. Thanks for sharing your message of happiness and friendship.

ESOTINE, a virtual high five and big thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my work!
Comment from Mary Hollingsworth
I certainly feel you on that gesture. With the way things are behind these masks sometimes the feeling of smothering overwhelms me and Just snatch off the mask and take some sighs of relief I love your context and the down to earth thoughts.

You are totally right. We are all long for a breath of fresh air to take us away from the mundane daily like. I will take the dare. I will take the dare every day. I think writing poetry for me is a pure pleasure and it is a breath of fresh air.
Thanks.

Lisa, we are kindred spirits, if I could not write everyday life would be much more restrictive and complicated.

It's a hard time in this world for getting the opportunity to take a fresh breath. Our mandated masks are getting in the way..... mentally and physically.
I did however just recently get away to the High Uintahs and spent 3 days with no mask demands... that breath of fresh air was a very needed lifeline.
Thanks for sharing this with us and good luck in the contest.

gramalot, it is those wonderful escapes that continues to give many of us hope that we are not living in a new normal and these times will pass.

You did a great job with your contest entry, Mystery Writer. I like the great message that your free verse supports. I like the use of some internals rhyme, the questions asked of readers, and the strong message.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes.
Respectfully, Jan

Simple acts of random kindness can indeed be like a breath of fresh air. It always brightens up my day whenever someone smiles at me or takes the time to talk to me. A well written piece. I enjoyed reading it. Good luck in the contest.

You mean, use social media for a "hand shake" and not a "take down"? I accept your offer - I will dare. :) This is a free-flowing, fun fifteen minute free verse entry.

Margaret, thank you so much here is a virtual high-five to share in your world.
Comment from estory
In many ways this free verse is like thinking aloud, an inner philosophy articulated with drama and emotion. You brought in hope, fear, and the tension between them in this poem. There is this sense of reaching out and not quite grasping onto something. In many ways that is what life and hope are like. estory

I love your fifteen minute free verse poem. It flowed really easy amd I loved the message in these lines:
Perhaps, you and I can begin
by sending a smile to a friend,
your neighbor, a colleague or
take a risk and let's virtual high-five
a total stranger.
Smiles are infectuous and good for the heartand body.
