Mary,
This is a beautiful poem with a super message, very timely. I can only imagine what joy that sight must have offered. *smile*
The flow was lovely and I enjoyed very much!

Mary, you are always teaching! The underground railroad passed through my hometown in Connecticut, but I assumed that was an end point because it was far from the Mason-Dixon Line. I hadn't thought about the slaves trying to get as far North as possible. But my folks were from Alabama, so CT was way north. I love the image of the "wide river" like arms held wide, and the "constant waves" like faithfulness.

Thanks for your lovely review. We have a monument to.the underground
railroad In Lewiston. It?s named ?Freedom Crossing? after a children?s book by my friend, Margaret Clark.
I know about the wrong pronoun, but when I pointed it out, I was told to fix it myself, but I can?t find a mechanism to do so. Oh well.

This etheree, Niagara River Freedom's Gate, has the proper one to ten syllable formatting and recalls the great meaning of the place as people's lives changed from one extreme to another.

Your contest entry told a great story about an important historical event, Mary. I enjoyed reading it. Great job with the facts, the smooth flow, internal rhyme of glow/sorrow; good color scheme, and your message. I could see everything as I read this.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

A very well-written Etheree about the Niagara river that widely gently flows inviting brave souls to cross on their way to freedom on the other side to find what they longer for.

This is such a lovely, vividly descriptive poem; it flows gently along, like that river. I'm glad I read the notes, which explain the historical significance of this river.
