A World Gone Gray

by Boogienights

Colourless Contest Winner
One day when the world lost its color,
and all on earth turned shades of gray.
Our zest for this life turned quite duller,
"It's a punishment," philosophers say.

The sun sets and rises each morning,
gone forever, red, yellow, and gold.
Blue skies gone from life without warning,
left behind bitter winds that blow cold.

Joyless, the waters of the oceans,
as pale waves kiss the gray shore.
Science has its theories and notions,
perhaps a shift in the earth's core?

The clergy cries, "Beg for redemption!"
so, earth's colors, our faith will restore.
But I think that it's worthy of mention,
that it's God we already implore.

The people rise up every morning,
to live in a black and white world.
Behind wooden smiles, they are mourning,
the flag of despair now unfurled.

Can we survive life without rainbows?
Of course, life goes on, that's old news.
Can we still dream in color, well, who knows?
Though our memories still hold different hues.

Though gray is the world that surrounds us,
despite how unhappy are we,
we can still hear the trill of a wood thrush,
we can still taste the salt of the sea.

Though we miss the beauty of green fields,
pinks and purples of lilacs in spring.
When planted the harvest, it still yields,
lilac scents will make all our hearts sing.

So, let not the dimness make you blue,
or fear the gray shadows of night.
Bold colors, they still live within you,
just remember, and your world will stay bright.
