So grab some hot chocolate and sit by the fire, and enjoy the Yuletide celebrations. This is guaranteed to get you in the mood for December the 25th, and chase the Scrooge away.

*****

'Twas the 24th of December, a special one in my memory. We piled the car with presents big and small, and hit the road, just us three. Our vintage tins were filled to the brim as joyous tunes played on. Christmas by the sea just wasn't working. We needed snow, or we'd go berserk!

"Let it snow," we cried. "We need some fum, fum, fum!"

We stopped the car and took a look, in the bleak midwinter. A sleigh ride just happened by; driven by old St. Nick. He really looked authentic, clad with silver bells that jingled. The snowy field was covered, as white as Santa's beard.

The whip cracked as it hurried us to the pines, where we saw a Douglas Fir. It was a splendid prize!

"O,Tannenbaum!" we all shouted. Our furry dog let out a howl, and joined in the merriment. There would be no blue Christmas this year, not with a tree like this!

With Jack Frost nipping at our noses, we finished just in time. We spied a little donkey... little donkey right there in the snow! It reminded us of Mary's boy child born this day; the virgin's cradle hymn.

My watch said well past three o'clock, so we hastened to the car.

My sister, Suzy Snowflake, called my cell, with the same old plea: "Baby, won't you please come home?"

"I'll be home for Christmas, don't you worry about a thing! We'll be arriving soon," I assured. "As sure as the snow lay on the ground, we'll be there to deck the halls."

Suzy exhaled the deepest sigh, as she had one more request. "The holly and the ivy are missing; my Christmas Eve table is half-dressed!"

"Not to worry," I said to her, and lifted my proclamation: "Christmas Day--joyous! We'll have a happy Christmas. The war is over, remember?"

"You're right," she said. Then blessings for the season fell like the snow.

When we arrived upon the house, festivities were in full form. Jackson, King, and I agreed, it was a picture perfect card. The tree went up lickedy split, all trimmed in reds and greens.

"Merry Christmas, darling," Jackson said, then stood me under the mistletoe. He took his time with hand held up, (which made poor Suzy blush.)

At last we feasted, for hours it seemed, and gave and received gifts.

We remembered the poor with food and kindness, in honor of God's gift: Jesus born this day, a child so sweet.

As we toasted the memories of days gone by, my favorite songs spun on the record player.

Would I love this day, always, and keep it in my heart forever? I answered my own question, "oh yes, I certainly would!"

Auld Lang Syne sang softly on my lips as older Christmas memories came to visit; those cherished days I thought I had forgotten.

Simply having a wonderful Christmas time, all through the night. I drifted off in dreamy sleep; Jackson on one side; Suzy nestled on the other. Sweet dreams of Christmas were piled high like plates of sugar cookies.
