Dunkirk soldiers make a risky choice.
Dangerous Choice

Twelve of us jammed into a small craft, splashing toward our rescue ship. Out of the sun, Stuka bombers swooped. Bursting shells shattered. The Ivanhoe’s magazine exploded. Screaming men jumped into a blazing oiled sea.
I yelled, “We’ve got to help them!”
Driver said, “Can’t. Already overloaded. I'll come back later. We can head for another rescue ship or back to shore.”
Every man forcefully shouted, “I wanna go home!”
