Tribute To Parents or Loved Ones Contest Winner

My sister Carol, now where do I start?
She left us too soon and took part of my heart.
There is so much about her I recall,
as sisters go, she was the best of all.

She liked to read and do puzzles galore,
I like to read but find puzzles a bore.
We were so opposite, Carol and I,
with very different tastes, I don't know why.

Yet, she sparked in me love of rummage sales,
the love of horror movies, spooky tales.
Took her to plays, she grew to love the stage,
our appetite for drama we'd assuage.

I visited on a Friday, a fine spring day,
I helped her sort her clothes but couldn't stay.
I said, "I'll see you in a day or two",
it's funny how the fates can turn on you.

Two scant days later, she laid down to sleep,
then the angels took her, and left us to weep.
It's been six years, but it still makes me cry,
I never got the chance to say goodbye.

My sister Carol was a good mother and wife,
but things didn't always go well in her life.
Still, she loved living and her spirit soared,
my big sister Carol is one I adored.
