What is true love?

The measure of love

by Wendy G

Man is impatient for satisfaction …
But true love is patient
Man puts pressure on others …
But true love is kind
Man envies his friend, lusts after his possessions …
But true love does not envy
He boasts about his achievements …
But true love does not boast
He's proud of all his conquests …
But true love is not proud
Man honours himself, puts others down …
But true love does not dishonour others
Man must look after number one …
But true love is not self-seeking
He is easily angered by lack of recognition …
But true love is not easily angered at all
Man remembers the failures and faults in others
But true love keeps no record of wrongs

True love does not delight in evil …
But man is pleased when his enemies fall
True love rejoices with the truth …
But man has diluted and distorted the truth
True love always protects others …
But man protects his own interests
True love always trusts …
But man finds it easier to be cynical
True love always hopes …
But man gives in to anxiety and fear
True love always perseveres …
But man says it's easier to move on
True love never fails …
But man fails to know what true love is.

Please, let me love with a pure heart
Each day give me a new start
Change me so I reflect your love
Perfect and holy - from above
You see how man has no idea
We need your help, we live in fear
I now know love because of you
Help me to share this in all I do.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails.
