The Life of a Person

by LisaMay

The life of a person is complex these days —
so much to adjust to in different ways.
In sickness and health, whether wealthy or poor,
perhaps it stays shut when you knock on the door?

Does the life of a person carry varying worth?
Does it depend where you’re born on this Earth?
And whether you’re born is another concern —
‘Right to Choose’ / ‘Right to Life’, when will we learn?

What are we worth in our own eyes as well?
Do we wish for Heaven but end up in Hell?
Is freedom our birthright, but we hide behind bars?
Do we grovel in dirt, or reach for the stars?

Perhaps the worth of a person, whether female or male,
depends on experience, who’s telling the tale.
Truth requires courage, doesn’t wear a disguise.
The worth of a person is diminished by lies.

Not all are believers — don’t say their path’s wrong.
Life is a compromise; let's all get along.
We all are so different, each story’s our own;
we thrive when respect and compassion are shown.

We each are so precious in the eyes of the Lord,
worth being cherished and wholly adored.
Let’s try to deserve it, let’s live in His light,
for if we believe it, it’s worth doing right.
