One Bold Butterfly

by Megan Sue Bates

Nestled amongst forests and bubbling brooks, a wisp of a girl quietly appears. She finds greatest peace in wilderness, with infinite beauty and practicality to its balance. She weathers all seasons; stunning highs, heart-wrenching lows, collecting vital tools for what lies ahead.
Nurtured with love, she sheds her protective shell to test new legs and sprinkle around sunshine. She inspires evolution through understanding, acceptance; urging curious minds to actualize dreams. She tirelessly gives herself, sacrificing so others thrive, never contemplating the cost.
Every step of her journey becomes increasingly arduous, yet she smiles through the pain. Some days, she can no longer rise, sickness savagely ravaging her. She's a muddy puddle descending into depths of despair. But watch as she digs deeper, triumphantly emerging with fire in her wings. I am one bold butterfly, flying ferociously into the storm.
