Balloon Animals

by Thomas Troso

My body tenses

and my face flinches

as I hear the desperate,

stridulous cries

of a red tying balloon.

Fragile as glass, she is

manipulated and s----t----r----e----t----c----h----e----d

into the newborn balloon dog

that lives with t--a--u--t limbs

in the hands of a child.
