Don't look down

Heights

by Monica Chaddick

Standing on the edge, looking down, the ground appears so far away
I am terrified to fall, so I back away slowly, horrified

Can't climb a ladder, can't stand heights

The discovery of this was on my roof when as I child I climbed
My dad working up there wanted coffee so I set out to bring it up

At the top I felt just fine, until I tried to go down

I froze, my feet upon the step - I couldn't move in any direction
The ground was all I saw. Dad had to step around me

Down he carried me to safety

When I need pictures hung, or some other assist
I require some help from someone

'Cuz a second step on a stool instills severe frights

Phobias writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a 10-15 line free verse poem about a phobia you may have. We all have something that very much frightens us. No rhyming patterns.

I have been terrified of heights since I was a child. I always feel as though I'm going to fall. This made me so paranoid when I had kids, because then I was frightened they would fall.
