This work has reached the exceptional level
This was the third anniversary of my husband's death

The Third Anniversary

by Monica Chaddick

Dillon has some company
To play games and such
But they don't want my interference
It's clear, at least that much

I asked them to play games with me
Dillon said they would
His friend just wasn't interested
So that did away with what we could

Casey has her job and friends
She always hangs with them
She never helped me through my grief
The way she promised in the end

Shelby has her friend, along with her three kids
She also has her own two
And then the one that's his
She can barely make it everywhere - I think she'll blow her lid

I haven't heard from Cody
I feel I don't exist
He hasn't been back since the end
I fear I'll never see him in our midst

Of course, we can't forget my mother
She hasn't said a word
Even with reminders
She acts like there's her and then no other

As usual, I am all alone
I'm lonely and depressed
I guess I'll watch some television
And then try to get some rest

My darling, I haven't forgotten you
Even if others have
I will always grieve for you
No matter what I have
