Getting mellow with age

Simon the cat

by Joanne Gill-Maddick

Simon loves to play outside even though he’s an indoor cat.

Watching the birds or nibbling on grass , he’s quite good at that.

Sometimes he stands in front of the door and meows for us to let him outside.

If the weather doesn’t look appealing he runs back inside and hides.

Every night like clockwork as I am heading to bed for the night.

Simon runs ahead and snuggles into the covers, as I turn out the lights.

He seems to like my female friends when they are around.

However, when the grandkids visit he’s nowhere to be found.

He doesn't like kids or men but loves his cool cat Dad.

He knows who takes good care of him.  His life ain’t so bad.

He loves to watch mice run across the screen of the big TV.

He really thinks they are real and keeps reaching for them you see.

He loves to lay next to me on the couch in the daytime and at night.

When Cat fadder comes along, he takes off like a flash of light.

He really likes to share his time with the both of us.

He secretly spends time with one or the other without too much fuss.

Simon is not a cuddly cat but he loves to sit and chill.

He rubs his nose against us.  A sign of love, I can tell.

He’s getting mellow as he ages and  loves to have his belly full.

Simon is a happy cat and I think he's pretty cool.
