When your sadness drives him away

Tears

by Heather Knight

your moon face
your iris smile
quiver under
the revelation.
the terrible,
unavoidable
fact.

he doesn't love you,
his heart
belongs
to the woman
with the straw hair
and the sky eyes.

where will you
go for comfort now?
who will hug you
when you hurt?
who will guide you
in those misty days?

you've always known
that he was
a god,
a golden boy.
you knew he'd go,
he'd spread his wings
and look for
an embroidered dress
on a strong frame.

you know your pain
pushed him away.
your sighs
drew holes
in his affection.

now you'll have
to carry on.
the hummingbird
by your side,
the heather
under your feet
and the clouds
above your fuzzy mind.

do not fear,
you will make it.
you will cross
the golden rainbow
that'll carry you
to the promised land.
safe at last.
