Jane died on 7 July 2023 from a massive brain haemorrhage. She was 82 (and looked 20 years younger).
A friend I knew for 18 years after meeting her in SW France where I was living part-time. Despite lots of draw-backs, she simply loved life, was forever curious and interested in people, an avid reader, a nature lover and an artist. She could walk into a room unaccompanied and quickly hold everyone's attention.
She suffered two aggressive forms of breast cancer and survived them but her hair, unusually, never grew back after the first bout of chemo. That said, she made turban-wearing an art form.
I was only speaking to her on the phone a few weeks ago. She sounded in good form, was on a new exercise/diet regime and feeling the benefits. She never complained of headaches or anything that might predispose her to a brain haemorrhage.
Today 20th July her ashes will be scattered in her favourite garden at a friend's home in France. RIP Jane.
