The Edge of Forever

by RobertaLee

I fell down at the rift
  that separates
    eternity from the now...
Reached out both hands
  to receive the gift.
It shimmered through my grasping fingers
  a quicksilver reflection
     of all that has been...
All that rested there with me
all that some day soon would be
      But not, for me
        Today.

Earthbound by pain,
  my cry
    was, "Why!"
And as my eyes returned to me
The exquisite togetherness I'd felt
  slipped
    from my memory...
Beyond my clutch
  beyond my reach
Eternity once more
   a yet to be.

This world is not my home, and I have met the edge several times in my sojourn here. This is a memory from one of them.
