The Sad Bird

by HAPPIOTTER

All alone on an old, dusty, gravel road sat a bird. Sitting in the hot Summer sun amidst the flying dry dust which had created a shrouded blanket around its feet, it had retreated. Its feathers were all thickly sheathed and looked as though newly fallen snow had drifted down ever so slowly and laid upon its back, resting as it slept.  It was grey and white as if God had taken the color right out of the world in which it abode and forced it into a black and white nothingness.

Sad and lonely the bird sat as if it were dying huddled with his head hidden beneath his cummerbund of feathers. Had it been abandoned by all that it knew before? The depression was very clear. It didn’t move much, It wanted no food. No water. The mental and physical pain was daunting. It had absolutely given up hope. Only a subtle quiver across its tiny little  body would be denudedly  exposed only here and there.

Suddenly another bird flies up. This bird had a beautiful bright array of colored feathers and it glided ever so gently down, down, down, slowly until finally landing next to the sad bird. The sad bird looks up slowly, trying to lift its head weakened in its saddened state. The  bright bird quickly flies off and comes back with a worm in its mouth and feeds it to the sad struggling bird. The bright bird huddled up next to the sad bird to cuddle and nurture as if compulsion had a mission. The sad bird begins to perk up. They look at each other in a way only lovers can fathom and day by day the sad bird begins to venture out to eat and drink. Then something amazing happens. The grey color of the sad bird begins to turn into a pallet of blues, greens and pinks. The sad bird was colorful again and joyous. Soon it begins to use its voice singing of an abundance of love which it has been given, Hallelujah! Singing together both birds fly off into the gorgeous horizon autonomously divine forever and ever.
