Full Moon Haiku
Wolf Moon
by K.L. Rockquemore
beneath an amber moon
hungry wolf howls ~ a Mother's cry |
This week's Haiku Club event was to select a moon from the Farmer's Almanac and write either a traditional or modern haiku.
The full wolf moon is seen throughout the month of January, appears close to the earth and is yellowish orange in color.
Native American elders passed down the belief that during the winter months when food was scarce, ravenous wolves could be heard howling outside villages This belief became my muse.
Capitalizing "Mother" was a choice and represents a double meaning here.
Mother = Mother Earth unable to provide nourishment for wildlife.
Mother = A she-wolf unable to feed her pups.
