A short story of a worthy price when volunteering.
Relieve and React
by Brian Taylor1
Her bark was loud.
Her bite was worth it.
The kennel of the orphaned pit bull was covered in urine.
A golden pudell with shine.
Toss in a biscuit?
No... My neck could be next.
I'm goin' in.
... Towel's down.
"Oh no... NO!"
Gagging on a pee-drenched double ply, I acted fast.
After prying her locked jaws, I reached past the razor-sharp canines and carefully dislodged the method to this madness.
A deep breath and a wagging tail.
The blood on my hand...sacrifice.
Days later, she was adopted... I hope they don't have wall-to-wall carpeting.
