Poem about sexual abuse

The secret

by Steffani Garza

The author has placed a warning on this post for sexual content.

So you told someone our little secret.

You  couldnt keep it

I know you are scared

But we are prepared.

Who’s we, you may wonder.

Coming out with a thunder

It’s your brain, body and heart.

We are inside you, each a part.

We work together with the same goal.

To keep you whole.

This may feel like a dream,

But let’s introduce your team.

Brain here

I help with fear.

Sometimes I fool you

so that I can protect you.

When that man was rubbing,

I stopped you from fighting.

To keep you safe.

You were so brave.

You may also hear my endless chatter

Or feel bad when you hear laughter.

But nothing mean I say to is true.

It’s just a way to protect you.

Hiiii.

I’m your heart.

And i help pump blood

But I also hold your love.

Close your eyes.

Let out a heavy sigh.

Put a hand over your chest.

The right is where you’ll feel my beat the best.

When you told someone,

You may have wanted to run

But your brain helped you talk

But I may have hurt.

Because someone hurt you.

Now to the hard one...your body.

Right now, it may not feel like it has a voice.

Or even a choice.

But now we need your help.

Feel free to scream or even yelp!

Repeat after me.

“My body is mine”

“My body is mine”.

We need to make sure our body is safe.

All of you body, not just your face.

A nurse can help check your body out.

Talk to you what it’s all about.

I want you to know.

You’re in control though.

Today sucks.

Tomorrow may suck too.

You may feel different.

You may feel Alone.

But I want you to know, you’re not.

I will be here to protect you, love you and help you heal.

A little context:

I am in a sexual assault training to become certified as a advocate for sexual assault. I am also a survivor of sexual assault, and sexual abuse as a childâ??s

And while dark, and not happy, this happens to children too.

So Iâ??ve written a poem that I would have liked to hear when I was a child.
