Becoming myself

Shadow

Driving along a lighted path 
The slow rise of irritation 
A brief shadow of a feeling 
Driving into the dark 
"Try to think positive, the good in a person"
But their shadow is in front of me constantly! 
"But Shadows are fleeting"
 
What should I do? A shadow covering my path
Enter? Or stop and turn around? 
It comes and goes this shadow, I want to love it 
But the pain of loss, my identity
Will that be gone? 
I am becoming the woman I want to be but this shadow is trying to stop me.
 
Shadow! Get away from me! 
No defeat,
Defeated is me.
 
A light shadow appears 
Not complete, some sunlight shines through 
I’m not defeated! 
I’m the woman I want to be
No shadow will overcome me.
