...Just a ramblin' boy

Out Of Tennessee

by jim vecchio

In a year called nineteen seventy three
I left college cause the states beckoned me
Leaving her in a place called Tennessee
As I went rambling and I felt so free

To a city named Boston I did go
No cash, just strumming on my old banjo

I sure missed that gal, the one I held near
No dollars for food, no dollars for beer
I phoned and I begged her to please come here
She said, “No way, hon! Now get into gear!”
“Come home now if you want to be my dear!”

To a city named Denver, I did go
With no motive and no talent to show

Seeking refuge in the hills and the snow
Knowing my rambling wheels needed a tow
Still hoping she by my side soon would go
So I phoned and begged her but she said, “No!”
Causing my spirit to reach a new low

To a city named L.A. I did hike
Not nearly enough money for a bike

All the people here are so very hip
L.A. folks lining on the Sunset Strip
But they all drink and for me, not a sip
So I phoned and begged her to join this trip
“No! Tennessee still has me in it’s grip!”
Her words tore at my soul just like a whip

I decided to end my lonely spree
My life and my love are in Tennessee
