Being realistic

True family

by Wendy G

Born of the same father and mother

Yet no deep care for one another

Childhood memories mostly of pain

Parents at war, again and again.

.

Separate now by distance and time

Grown apart, yet some interest we mime

I try to forgive, and show I care ...

A loving response is never there

.

More like strangers, I regret to say

Can we be friends in any real way?

Peacemaker me, for many a year

Saddened by all the harsh things I hear

.

Now I’m tired of trying to appease

It’s always tense, I’m never at ease

Sadly I say, just go your own way,

I’ll keep my distance, but I'll still pray.

.

Family bonds are sometimes not there

I won’t give in to grief or despair ....

I have a Father in Heaven above

Who offers unconditional love.

.

Now He’s given me a family here

And precious friends whom I hold dear ....

We share our joys, our sorrows too

They’re my loved ones, a family true.
