A short coronavirus lament

The wind

by Caroline M England

Capricious wind I see you now

or where your feet do tread.

You bend the grasses to your will,

toss leaves around my head.

And in this inconsistent time,

when friends so near are far,

and we each one is solitary,

Jammed in our own jar,

I wish that I could ride the breeze

and whisper to each friend,

to tell them that I miss them so,

to joke or make amends.

As you to every corner sprint

Oh wind, I ask you here,

to plant a kiss on every cheek

of those that I hold dear.
