For My Eyes Only

My Journal

by Janet Foor

From east to west and north to south
my life is scrawled across the page.
The good, the bad, the ugly things
but nought I ever wrote was sage.

Around the world and back again
of countless memories I write.
From hilltops to the distant shore
I've scribbled ev'ry day and night.

So often on my tattered page
it seems the bad and ugly win.
They tip the wayward scales to ten,
to my disdain and my chagrin.

My broken heart and shattered dreams
All charted in my history.
The day he left without a word --
that still remains a mystery.

It is not hard to see the bad.
It blares so loud, it even boasts.
But, when I look expecting good
I may just find it has the most.

Around me and beyond I see
His hand on this celestial ball.
His blessings are a gift so good
I can't begin to count them all.

Each sunset makes me take a breath
and smile at the amazing view
I watch until the last glow ends.
Another day, a gift from You.

I called upon the Lord today.
Old burdens seemed a lethal brew.
With tenderness, He said to me.
Today, my child, I'll carry you.

I've journaled for years and left it all on the page. I found some old journals the other day and read a few pages thinking I might find an idea for a poem. I realized that these writings may be an accurate recollection of the day but I don't want anyone else to read them. So...after I reread each journal, I will destroy it. God forbid that my loved ones read what I wrote after I'm gone. They all think I'm nice......haha
