A Decuain for the rhyming poem contest

September Rose

by June Sargent

The final rose of summer bares her heart

as petals open wide towards the sun.

A chill is in the air as birds depart

for warmer shores where spring has just begun.

A sadness fills my soul when summer's done

and robins leave behind an empty nest.

But watching chipmunks hoarding can be fun ~

reminding me that Nature needs to rest.

The golden threads of memories we've spun

throughout the seasons cannot be undone.
