My Baby Girl

by HarryT

Moonlight squeezes though a crackled window shade
Now widowed, I sleep alone with sad memories
I lie restless in my lonesome bed, when I hear
Tiny footsteps creaking the floor outside my door
Is that my little girl’s bubbling giggle
Echoing in the hall outside my room?

I know, I know it’s my heart playing tricks
My child is dead, her soul in God’s light
Yet, I feel her warm breath on my cheek
The song, “I’m a Little Tea Pot,”
I sang her is being sung in my ear
I know my baby girl is here
